IRO VASALOU IS A GREEK CHOREOGRAPHER, DANCER AND DRAMATURG BASED IN ATHENS. SHE IS CURRENTLY WORKING WITH DANCE COMPANIES AS A DRAMATURG WHILE DEVELOPING HER OWN CHOREOGRAPHIC WORK THROUGH COLLABORATIONS IN GREECE AND ABROAD. HIGHLIGHTS OF PAST PROJECTS INCLUDE THE CO-PRODUCTION OF HER GROUP PERFORMANCE SYMPOSIUM WITH MEGARON ATHENS MUSIC HALL (2023), THE CO-PRODUCTION OF HER SOLO BECOMING WITH ANIMAL WITH ONASSIS FOUNDATION:STEGI (2020), THE AWARD FOR BEST SHORT DANCE FILM IN MALAGA CREA (2018) AND THE PRESENTATION OF ARDE AT VENTANA ABIERTA FESTIVAL (2017)  AMONG OTHERS.

Iro Vasalou (Athens 1993) graduated from London Contemporary Dance School (The Place) in 2014 and in 2019 she obtained her Masters degree in Dramaturgy at Utrecht University.

She has lived and worked in Málaga, Spain, for six years as a freelance dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. In 2015, she founded the dance company La Fáctica Danza with Lula Amir (Uruguay), an on-going collaboration up to this date, with the latest dance creation Libidinal – co-produced by Factoría Echegaray, where Iro participated as the choreographer´s assistant. She also collaborated with the site-specific collective Villapuchero Factory, the dance company Ximena Carnevale and the composer and musician Paloma Peñarrubia Ruíz.

With these and other solo works, she participated in festivals, such as the 7th Young Choreographers Festival at Onassis: Stegi // Athens Video Dance Project // Nuevos Valores de la Danza in Málaga // MAF Málaga // Seasoning by United Cowboys in Eindhoven // 8th You Better Move at Dansmakers in Amsterdam // Resolutions Festival in London.

During her stay in the Netherlands she collaborated with  NITE Ensemble (Club Guy & Roni + NNT) at Machine Fabrik in Groningen as a dramaturg-assistant intern. She also led the research for and organized the symposium Interdisciplinarity: A Space for Togetherness, hosted by Utrecht University.

She is based in Athens since 2020, working as a dramaturg with dance companies such as The Guest Project, GesamtAtelier and choreographer Barbara Bardaka among others, while she continues to develop her personal choreographic practice.

Her latest choreographic work Symposium was co-produced by and premiered at Megaron Athens Music Hall, as part of Megaron Underground program, supported financially by the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Cervantes Institute Athens and Creative Europe: Culture Moves Europe program.
